Hi – I’m Chris Hancox.
I left the rat race in 2021 at the age of 36 after achieving financial independence by building a property portfolio. With the benefit of time freedom and now able to work on my own terms, I founded Fintentional to help others achieve the same.
Here is my story…
After school I started out working a typical 9-5 office job and was living with my parents.
I was lucky to have a secure upbringing with no major hardships, but like many normal people I felt bored, uninspired by work, and frustrated at how I was spending most of my time working Monday to Friday just so that I could enjoy myself on the weekends.
This continuous cycle of exchanging time for money is something many people can relate to, and most never escape from.
I saved for 10 years to afford my first deposit on a house, and eventually purchased my first property in 2012 at the age of 27.
After fully refurbishing the house and realising how much value was added, I saw an opportunity.
Inspired by my mortgage broker who explained that I could take equity from the house to fund more deposits, I began to repeat the process to build a property portfolio.
By 2018 my portfolio had grown, and now produced an additional income stream that provided me with basic financial security. This gave me confidence to leave my safe job with a good stable salary and take a risk on a new more exciting career path to accelerate my journey towards financial independence and time freedom.
Along with my wife, we temporarily relocated away from family and friends, and I began working in London for a well-known property investment company. I worked long days commuting into the city, looking to broaden my property knowledge and learn from other investors, while also maximising my income to continue investing.
We sold our 3-bedroom home, downsized to a 2-bedroom apartment, and used the equity to double down on the growth of our portfolio.
By late 2021, I had grown my property portfolio to a point where it could support my living costs, and in doing so, I had achieved what I set out to with property investment….
Freedom and choice
over how I spend my time
During my investment journey, I implemented a variety of strategies:
REFURBS
Adding value by improving a property through refurbishment.
SINGLE BTL’s
Most of my portfolio is comprised of simple hands-off Buy-To-Let’s.
HMO’s
HMO’s offer the opportunity for increased cashflow.
I now work with other investors to share my experience
and can help you to achieve the same.
